Her roots were in Ava Charlotte Y. (Haynes) Carter, 89, a resident of Riverbank, Calif., for over 60 years, passed away at Oak Valley Hospital on March 7, 2007. She was born Sept. 6, 1917.
She was a retired surgical nurse’s aide at Scenic Hospital in Modesto, Calif. She loved bowling, dancing and visiting with friends. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed getting her Douglas County Herald. She read it “stem to stern” according to family members, to keep up with local news about childhood friends. Even though she lived most of her adult life in Riverbank, Calif., her roots were in Ava. She would visit whenever she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harve and Helen Haynes, and her husband, Herbert Carter Jr.
She is survived by her sister, June Haynes, of Missouri; a son and his wife, Ron and Judy Carter; grandchildren, Kathryn and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Natalie Rose, Jack and Jackson; and her companion for 35 years, Stan Lowry.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 13, at 10 a.m. at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, under the direction of Oakdale-Riverbank Mortuary.
Remembrances can be made to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or the donor’s favorite organization.
