A life long resident of the Ava area Thelma Piland, the daughter of Floyd Garner and Radie (James) Garner, was born March 25, 1922 in Ozark County, Mo., and departed this life March 8, 2007, at the age of 84.
Thelma was a life long resident of the Ava area. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She loved being in the outdoors and delighted in watching her favorite TV shows, Dragnet and Dallas. Thelma also enjoyed calling everybody by their full given name and she loved being with her family.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dora and Nora, and two brothers, Clifford and Earl; and one son Gerald.
Thelma is survived by two daughters, Judy Roberts, Great Bend, Kan., and Geraldine Lee, Ellinwood, Kan.; two brothers, John Garner and Joe Garner, both of Ava; three sisters, Geneva High, Derby, Kan., Virginia Cooper, Enid, Okla., and Nancy Parker, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Brad Smith officiating. Visitation was 9 a.m. to service time Monday. Interment was in the Souder Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.clinkingbeard funeralhome.com.
