John Benjamin Alsup, 82

Born to Logan and Tinnie (Procter) Alsup in Buckhart, Mo Ben Alsup 82, of Dewey, Okla., died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday at the Heritage Villa Nursing Center. Services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Walker-Brown Chapel with Rev. Orville Moody officiating. Final committal rites were in the Denlow Cemetery east of Ava with the Rev. Buddy Boyd officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home.

John Benjamin (J.B.) Alsup was born on July 20, 1924, to Logan and Tinnie (Procter) Alsup in Buckhart, Mo. He joined the Navy and served with the Marine operations in World War II. He spent the majority of his career life in the oil fields. Close to retirement he took up dairy farming which brought him joy. Ben, or J.B. as he was known by all his friends and family, loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid supporter of all their activities including attending all the local wrestling matches, football, baseball, and basketball games. He would travel any distance to watch his grandchildren participate in their sporting events.

Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. He was a true jokester and a real joy.

He is survived by five sons, Daniel Rogers, of Dewey, Okla., William Rogers, of Bartlesville, Okla., John and his wife, Diana Alsup, of Columbia, Thomas Alsup, of Dewey, Okla., and Rocky and his wife, Deloris Alsup, of Monett; three daughters, Linda and her husband, Steve Denny, of Lenapah, Okla., Barbara and her husband, Joe Christian, of Verona, and Anna (Alsup) Bishop, of Seymour; best friend and ex-wife, Joyce Rogers; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, lifetime friends, Dane and Sandy Lambert, of Ava, and a host of close friends.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley Alsup, infant daughter, Joyce Alsup, two sisters, Helen Alsup and Noreen Hancock, grandson Raymond Brewer Jr., and granddaughter, Sarah Alsup.
