Born and raised in Wright County Sammie K. Blevins, 85, of Nixa, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
Sammie was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and his wife, Amel.
He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis and husband, Jim Edwards, and Georgia Wilcox, all of Springfield; one special niece, Farrel Ivy, of Ozark; several other nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, Cynthia Edwards, Jeffrey Edwards, Kayla O’Neal, and Jennifer Falter; and three great-grandchildren.
Sammie was born and raised in Wright County. He married Amel Long in 1939 in Douglas County. They were happily married for 62 years before Amel’s death. They made their home in Wright County, leaving in 1955 to make their home in the Springfield and Nixa area.
He worked for Kraft Foods for 27 years, retired and spent the remaining years enjoying his lifelong love for raising and showing foxtrotting horses. He was a charter member of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association, Ava. He and Amel enjoyed selling and trading horses all over the United States. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Nixa.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield, with interment in Delaware Cemetery, Nixa.
