Phillip R. Jones, 61

Served in the United States Navy for four years Phillip R. Jones, 61, Ava, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Phil was born Oct. 13, 1945, in Fairland, Okla., to Franklin and Marie (Tipton) Jones. Phil’s parents preceded him in death and Phil was raised by his aunt and uncle, Kathleen and Hershel Martin, whom he called mom and dad.

On May 29, 1973, he was united in marriage to Glenda White and to this union two children were born.

Phil graduated from Cabool High School in 1964. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country with a tour of four years, with one-year duty in Vietnam. Phil worked most of his life in the Oil Petroleum Industry before moving to Ava in 1993 where he and his wife owned and operated P.G.’s Salvage. At a young age Phil accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and remained faithful to his belief.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Glenda Jones; daughter, Amy Keyes and husband, James, of Ava; son Brad Jones, of Ava; five grandchildren, Brittany, Madison, Janina, Emaly, and Samantha; aunt/honorary mom, Kathleen Martin, of Afton, Okla.; four sisters, Kelly Matney and Gail McDougal, both of Aurora, Shirley Cox, of Cabool, and Alice Cambers of Miami, Okla.; six brothers, Kevin Martin, of Aurora, Marlin Martin, of Springfield, Paul Miller Jr., of Commerce, Okla., Harlin Jones, of Miami, Okla., David Martin of Aurora, and Henry Martin, of Cabool; many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5, at the VFW Post 5993 where Phil had been a member for several years. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
