A resident of the Thornfield area Vertis Myers, son of Oneil Myers and Minnie (Kimble) Myers was born July 15, 1929, in Louisiana, and departed this life Jan. 18, 2007, at the age of 77.
Vertis was a resident of the Thornfield area for the past 20 years, moving from Louisiana. Vertis was a medic with the U.S. Air Force, serving 20 years during World War II, Korean War, and Viet Nam. He was a member of the Thornfield Southern Baptist Church.
On Nov.1, 1955, Vertis and Ina Joy Coston were united in marriage in Woodville, Miss. Vertis and Ina were blessed with three children.
Vertis was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Myers.
He is survived by his wife, Ina Joy of the home, Thornfield; three children, Richard Myers, Thornfield, Cynthia Johnson, Montana, and Ronald Myers, Louisiana; three grandchildren; four brothers, Dean Myers and Roger Myers, both of Louisiana, Mack Myers and Larry Myers, both of Texas; four sisters, Lena Brown, Louisiana, Janice Adams, Mississippi, Faye Howard, Louisiana, Florence Debetaz, Louisiana; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 22, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Barry DeWeese officiating. Interment followed in the Thornfield Cemetery.
The family requests memorials to the Southern Baptist Church of Thornfield or Thornfield Cemetery.
