Born Sept. 25, 1931, in Drury Geralda L. Roy, 75, originally of Dora, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at her home in Mtn. Grove.
Geralda was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Drury, to Gerald T. and Elaine (Upshaw) Shannon. She graduated form Mtn. Grove High School in 1949. In 1950, she married Paul H. Roy in Mtn. Home, Ark., and to this union four children were born. They moved to Dora in 1954 where Paul and Gerry joined Paul’s family in the merchant business.
Gerry worked beside her husband in the business as co-owner of Roy’s Store and North Fork Outfitters in Dora. She also served as monitor of local weather for the National Weather Service for 37 years.
Gerry and Paul attended the Odom Church of Christ. She and Paul retired in 1994 and turned their time and energy toward family, friends and gardening. She was an avid cook and homemaker who also loved hunting and fishing with her husband, sons, and grandchildren. Gerry will be remembered for her honest wit and humor, her great cooking and service to others.
Besides her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Roy, and her brother, Barker Shannon.
She is survived by her brother, C.D. Upshaw; her children and their spouses, Jerry Paul Roy and Jaqueline Hickam, of Springfield, Janis (Roy) and Don Kelly, of Norwood, Monte and Patti Roy, of Chesterfield, and Chris Roy, of Drury; her grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Mackenzie, Travis and his wife, Sheryl, Jennifer and her husband, Jimmy, Housten and his wife, Jerrica, John and his wife, Heidi, Carrie, Bridget and her husband, Isaac, Clayton, Austin, Mikee, Michelle and her husband, Justin, Lindsay, Kelsey, Christine, Jason, and Lily Grace; 13 great-grandchildren, Ty, Emma, Max, Jaylene, Titus, Joelle, Trever, Josie, Trey, Addison, Ava, Cameron and Regan.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, in the First Christian Church, Mtn. Grove, with Dr. Don Hamby and the Rev. Fred Hamby officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Community Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
