Married to Kyle Pogue in Ava Dortha Christeen Pogue, 84, of Bruner, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, in her home. Dortha was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Coffeyville, Kan., the daughter of Robert and Stella Woods Swearingin.
Dortha was married to Kyle Pogue in Ava, on June 12, 1942, and to this union six daughters were born.
Dortha was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her daughter, Sharon, her grandson, Jeff, and her brother, Robert. Also preceding her were four sisters, Ada, Josephine, Mildred and Shirley, and her stepparents, Norman Beeman and Alice Swearengin.
Dortha is survived by her five daughters, Shirley Arthur and her husband, Ronald, of Willard, Bonnie Powell and her husband, Bill, of Windsor, Beverly Zittle and her husband, Charles, of Springfield, Patricia Pogue, of Springfield, and Pamela Raubs of Bruner; one son-in-law, Floyd Arthur, of Urbana; three brothers, Norman Beeman, of Fair Grove, Lonnie Swearengin, of Springfield, and J.R. Swearengin, of Rogersville; one sister, Betty Speaks, of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Dortha Pogue will be held Friday Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Union Chapel Church with burial to follow in the Union Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 till 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Chapel Cemetery in memory of Dortha at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
