Born Nov. 5, 1903, in Sweden, Mo. Thelma Mary Call, daughter of Warren Miller Strait and Ella (Heatherington) Strait, was born Nov. 5, 1903, in Sweden, Mo., and departed this life in Ava, on Nov. 30, 2006, at the age of 103.
Thelma was a life long resident of the Ava area. She and Alva “Ivy” P. Call were united in marriage on Feb. 19, 1922, in Squires, Mo., and to this union 10 children were born.
Thelma was a housewife and worked on the farm with her husband, Ivy. She was a member of the Baptist Church and taught Sunday school and also taught school.
Thelma enjoyed working in the garden, working puzzles, and writing letters. She was a great cook and adored her family.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ivy, one son, Loren, one daughter, Mary, a stillborn son, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by seven children, Clarence Call, Spirit Lake, Iowa, Vera Fields, Torrance, Calif., Cecil Call, Rochelle, Ill., Dorothy Miller, Gainesville, Troy Call, West Plains, Phyllis Robertson, Mansfield, and Ralph Call, Ava; 25 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Max Stephens officiating. Interment followed in the Girdner Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
