Moved to Ava in August 1976 Lenard V. Zellner, 83, was born Feb. 14, 1923, to Peter and Johanna Zellner in Blanker, Wisc. He departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at home in Ava.
On July 3, 1946, he was united in marriage to his loving wife of 50 years, Norma.
Lenard lived in Rockford, Ill., where he worked as a machinist for Roper Whitney Tool Co., before moving to Ava in August 1976.
After retiring Lenard was a contractor and enjoyed fixing things. He also was a former member of the Ava United Methodist Church and also the Trinity Lutheran Church. At the time of his passing he attended Ava General Baptist Church.
Lenard was not a quitter, and even though he had numerous medical problems he never gave up and was always willing to help others overcome their medical difficulties, as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Johanna Zellner, and his son, Gary. Also preceding Lenard in death were three brothers, Carl, Peter and Robert, and one sister, Marian Konopa.
Lenard is survived by his wife, Norma, of the home; three brothers, Joseph and Delores Zellner, of Saynor, Wisc., Kenneth and Marion Zellner, and Bernard and Eunice Zellner, all of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters, Myrt and Quentin Tacks, Belvedere, Ill., and Rheta Zellner, of Rockford, Ill.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Ava Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. A private burial will follow at the Ava Cemetery.
