Wilbur grew up in the Squires community Wilbur Turner was born on Oct. 26, 1936, the son of William Etcyl Turner and Mildred Caldonia (Plumb) Turner, at Squires, Mo., and departed this life on Oct. 21, 2006, at the age of 69.
Wilbur grew up in the Squires community and graduated from Ava High School. He worked as a welder. Wilbur loved his family, working outdoors, especially with timber, visiting and playing cards with friends. He was always happy to see people.
In 1959, Wilbur and Shirley Riley were united in marriage and to this union three daughters and one son were born. On Aug. 12, 1976, Wilbur and Brenda Jean (McCullough) Carlson were united in marriage in Thornfield, and to this union one son was born. She preceded him in death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Brenda; one son, Dale Turner; one sister Opal; and two brothers, Dale and Gary Turner.
Survivors include three daughters, Lois Honeycutt, of Lutie, Dottie Maggard, Walnut Grove, and Lottie Jo Clayton, of Lutie; two sons, Jackie Carlson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jason Turner, of Springfield; three sisters, Loretta Burton, Ava, Barbara Cowart; Gainesville, and Arlene Walker, of Squires; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating and burial in Murray Cemetery. Visitation was from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday. Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
