Married in Ava July 1940 Doris Pinckney Stephens, 85, was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Ottawa, Kan., to John and Golda (Frost) Roberts. Doris passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006.
She was married to Richard Pinckney at Ava in July 1940. They were blessed with three children. For over 25 years they owned and operated the Pinckney Store and Garage in Wasola.
She married Dick Stephens at Mtn. Home, Ark., in August 1973. They made their home in Oklahoma for five years before moving back to Ava.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, John and Golda Frost. Also preceding her in death were two husbands, Richard Pinckney, in March 1972, and Dick Stephens, in January 1989. Her daughter, Brenda, also preceded her in death as did a brother, Ivan Roberts, and one stepdaughter, Jane.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Pinckney and Ronald Pinckney and wife, Doris, all of Wasola; one grandson, Tanner Pinckney and wife, Mindy, of Ava; one granddaughter, Misty Souder and husband, Matt, of Wasola; four great-grandchildren, Titus and Cade Pinckney, of Ava, and Alton and Garrett Souder, of Wasola; one brother, Delano Roberts, Kansas; one sister, Leah Moore, Idaho; one sister-in-law, Roxie Roberts, Wasola. Also surviving is one stepson, Jim Stephens; one stepdaughter, Sue; six step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Ava Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Cabrera officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Ava Family Funeral Home.
