Son of Joseph W. and Catherine Sellars Jonathan David Sellars, age 5, son of Joseph W. and Catherine (Lonnborg) Sellars, was born July 25, 2001, in Springfield, and went to be with Jesus in Heaven on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at 12:48 a.m., at his home near Norwood, with his father and mother kneeling beside him. Jon was very courageous and strong throughout his nine-month illness.
Jon lived in Norwood and last year had attended Norwood Preschool classes where he made many friends. He liked going to his sisters’ ballgames and playing with his friends. He loved superheroes, playing T-ball, video games, watching cartoons and listening to ’60s rock and roll music. He was a big NASCAR and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He liked going to church with his family at Rock Chapel Freewill Baptist Church north of Norwood.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Terra (Sellars) Miller in 2003; his paternal great-grandparents, Elza and Ellen Sellars; his maternal great-grandparents, Andrew Louis and Elsie Blanton; a great-uncle, Steve Johnson; and by a second cousin, Derick Lee Sellars.
He is survived by his loving parents, Joe and Kathy Sellars, of Norwood; his sisters, Samantha “Sam” Sellars and Nichole “Nicki” Sellars, both of the home; his paternal grandparents, Charles “Chuck” and Marilyn Sellars, of Saucier, Miss.; his paternal grandmother, Phyllis VanNess, of Norwood; his maternal grandparents, Walter Jr. and Barbara Lonnborg, of Gulfport, Miss.; his maternal grandmother, Diana Blanton, Greensburg, Ind.; paternal great-grandparents, Tressie Sellars, Norwood, and Lois Garnek, St. George, Utah; his maternal great-grandparents, Walter Sr. and Cathy Lonnborg, Brandon, Miss.; uncles, aunts; cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life services for Jonathan Sellars were held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m., in the Norwood High School gym with the Revs. Kevin Williford and Larry Curtis officiating.
A balloon release was held at the cemetery and burial was in the Rock Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.
