Born April 3, 1922 in Douglas County Martin B. Lane was born April 3, 1922 in Douglas County, to Martin and Celia (Miller) Lane. He departed this life Oct. 1, 2006 at the age of 84.
He married his soul mate and best friend, Erma (Hale) Lane on April 14, 1942 in Bolivar, and to this union seven children were born.
Martin served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. Martin was a dairy farmer. He worked in Colorado for 55 years and was employed by the Schmidt Family Farm. Later, moving back to Ava he worked for years with Sentinel. Martin loved to go to the Senior Citizens to play pool.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Lillie, Lue, Joy, Ada and Elma; two brothers, Jack and Martin; one son, Walter Lane; one grandson, Ronnie Lee Gonzales; and one great-grandson, Curtis Wayne Gonzales.
He is survived by his wife of the home, Erma Lane; six children, Karen Lane, Greeley, Colo., Lester Lane and Lindell “Toby” Lane, both of Ava, Joel and Kathy Lane, Sparta, Sharon and Allen Brunson, Commerce City, Colo., Martin Lane Jr., Ava; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alta Brown, Ava; special nephews, Jim Manning and Bill Dugan, whom Martin helped raise; and a very special friend, Susan Ridenour; a special family, the Schmidt family of Colorado; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Fannon Cemetery with military services conducted by the VFW Post 5993 and American Legion Post 112.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made as a love offering in care of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
