Born in Gainesville Alta Lurina Headrick passed from this life on Sept. 26, 2006 at her home in Ava.
She entered this life on Oct. 19, 1918 in Gainesville, the daughter of Harve and Carrie Blisard. On Feb. 24, 1957 Alta was united in marriage to John Kenneth Headrick in Texas.
Alta served her country in the United States Army from July 17, 1952 until Oct. 19, 1976. Alta was as proud of her service for her country as her country was of her service. She retired in 1976 as a staff sergeant.
Alta spent many hours hand piecing quilts as well as hand quilting them. As long as she was physically able Alta worked for hours stitching love into each quilt piece.
Alta is survived by three children, William and Diane Meyer, of Unionville, Conn., Jeff and Dana Headrick, of West Plains, and Rachel Fredrickson, of Ava; a brother, Glen Blisard and wife Irene, of Elgin, Texas; a sister, Lennie Siebert, of Ava; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and family.
Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 30 at Ava Family Funeral Home, Ava, with Chaplain Belva Tarrant and Rev. Steve Sinor officiating. Burial followed in the Lutie Cemetery with full military rites.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.
