Daughter of John and Mildred Velker Linda L. Kitterman passed from this life on Sept. 25, 2006 at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, after a short illness. She entered this life on Jan. 8, 1940 in Princeton Ill., the daughter of John and Mildred Velker. On Dec. 24, 1955 Linda was united in marriage to Fred Kitterman.
Linda spent many hours working on crafts including counted cross stitch and crocheting many afghans for family and friends. African violets were some of Linda’s favorite flowers and she loved to grow them. Linda’s cooking will be remembered by many. She loved to bake bread, cookies, cobblers, and pies. Many birds and cats flourished under Linda’s tender loving care. Linda was also a very good marksman, hitting the target whenever she would fire a gun.
Of all of the talents that Linda possessed the one thing that Linda loved to do more then anything was to take care of her family, which was her career.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Kittennan, and her parents John and Mildred Velker. Also preceding Linda in death is one sister, Shirley Benskin.
Linda is survived by three children, Daniel and Dorothy Kitterman, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jill Johnson, Ava, and Judy and Tim Hampton, also of Ava. Also surviving Linda are seven grandchildren, Kelly Kitterman, Jeannie Wilson, Rhiannon Price, Starra Price, Aimee Johnson, Roger and Kimberly Pearson, and Tiffany Hampton. Linda also leaves two, soon-to-be three, great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Velker, of Princeton Ill., and a sister, Mary May, of Vancouver, Wash. Linda also leaves behind a special friend, Tiger, her kitty.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Ava Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Hatcher officiating, under the direction of Ava Family Funeral Home. An open visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Ava Family Funeral Home.
