Leona Mae Comer, 87

Born Jan. 5, 1919, in Webster County Leona Comer, the daughter of John Silvey and Frances “Taylor” Silvey, was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Webster County, and departed this life Sept. 23, 2006, at the age of 87.

On June 30, 1937, Leona and John Paul Comer were united in marriage in Douglas County. Leona was a charter member of the Sandy General Baptist Church and was always in attendance. Leona loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and quilting. When she had a little extra time she enjoyed driving her Ford Ranger pickup into town.

Leona is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Frances and Doyle Humbyrd, of Ava, Juanita and Harold Menzies, of Clever, Jeanie and Ron Cummins, of Marshfield; and three sons and their wives, John and Brenda Comer, of Springfield, Bob and Bobbie Comer, of Billings, and Bill and Barbara Comer, of Ava. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Comer; her parents; and her three brothers, Leonard, Aaron, and Arnold Silvey; and three sisters, Cleo Self, Ruby Lockhart and Betty Farris.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday, September 28) in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, with the Revs. Neal Crum and Randy Dalton officiating.

The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.

Visitation was held Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ava Cemetery following the service.
