Born Oct. 8, 1922, in Douglas County Emogene Helen Whitted, of Columbia, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Columbia Regional Hospital. She was 83.
She was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Douglas County, to Roscoe and Mae Nelson Swearengin. On Aug. 4, 1946, she married Stephen Whitted in Seymour.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Mrs. Whitted enjoyed helping others in many ways, including tutoring and teaching students to read. She was a great cook and loved plants, flowers and gardening.
Mrs. Whitted is survived by her husband, Stephen; one daughter, Catherine Collins and husband, Jeff, of West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Calvary Baptist Church, Columbia. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery.
