Son of Elmer and Ica Lewis Maloney was born in Ava Lowell W. Maloney son of Elmer and Ica Lewis Maloney was born Feb. 6, 1926 in Ava, and departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006 at Rocky Ridge Manor nursing home, Mansfield, at the age of 80.
On June 20, 1970 Lowell was united in marriage to Lorene Rippee Dougherty and they shared 36 years together.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ruie Kimbrell and Opal Campbell, one son-in-law, Steve Fitzgerald, one granddaughter, Missy Vasquez and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Chance.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene, of the home; two sons, Danny and Beth Maloney, Sparta, and Jarrett and Dena Dougherty, Spokane; four daughters, Debbi and Larry Chance, Carolyn and Donnie Davis, Connie and Danny Givans, and Cindy and Rick Croney, all of Ava; one brother, Clinton and Dorothy Maloney, Springfield; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Lowell, a 1943 graduate of Ava High School, served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at various jobs including Springday Corp. of Springfield, Carnation and Twentieth Century Milk Plants and Emerson Electric, and owned the L & L Drive Inn all of Ava. He also managed the Roaring River State Park.
He retired from the Ava Public Schools in November of 2001.
With Lowell’s love of coon dogs he helped start the Douglas County Coon Hunters Assoc. He also enjoyed coaching his son’s ball teams. Lowell enjoyed square dancing on the Ozark Jubilee that aired on KY3. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church of Ava. He was well known for his wonderful sense of humor. He loved his family making them his pride and joy.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Robert Roberts and Casey Pierce officiating. Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association or charity of the donors choice.
