Terrence Randal Pahl, 61

Son of Herschel A. and Bonnie B. Pahl Terrence Randal “Randy” Pahl, 61, Tempe, Ariz., died tragically on Aug. 13 from injuries sustained in a bicycling accident the preceding evening. He was in the company of his brothers, Neel T. and Dale E. Pahl, who both flew in from Denver.

Randy was born May 4, 1945, at the Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, Calif. He was the son of Herschel A. and Bonnie B. Pahl. He grew up in a Navy family, receiving his education in public schools in Sunnyvale, Calif., Norfolk, Va., San Diego, Calif., Sanford, Fla., Alexandria, Va, Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan.

He received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry and electronics from Kearney State Teachers College (now University of Nebraska at Kearney) in 1967. While working on his graduate degree he was employed at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Grand Island, Neb.

On Jan. 27, 1968, he was married to Janet Wait, in Alliance, Neb.

His professional career took him to Medford, Ore., Denver, Colo., Washington state, and finally to Phoenix, Ariz., where he made major contributions in the area of chemistry and computers. Over the years, Randy received numerous achievement awards.

He is survived by his son, Maclaine Aaron Pahl, of Portland, Ore., and daughter, Paige Elise Pahl; his parents, Bonnie B. and Herschel A. Pahl, captain US Navy (ret), of Ava; and his two brothers, Neel T. Pahl and Dale E. Pahl, of Denver, Colo.; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Lakeshore Mortuary, Mesa, Ariz., with the Rev. Jim Fountain of the Chandler United Methodist Church presiding.

His family requests donations to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
