Monzella "Monty" Virtue, 77

Born in Douglas County Monzella I. “Monty” Virtue, daughter of the late Samuel and Oshia (Ferguson) Hitchcock, was born on March 19, 1929, in Douglas County, Mo., and departed this life suddenly on Aug. 5, 2006, in the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains at the age of 77.

Monty grew up in Douglas County and graduated from Ava High School in 1947. Following graduation, she attended Missouri Arkansas Baptist College in West Plains and taught at Little Zion School for one year. She was united in marriage to Albert C. Terkosky on Aug. 15, 1950, in Mtn. Home, Ark. They moved to Livonia, Mich., where she worked for Burls. When Al’s health started failing, they moved back to the Mtn. Grove area.

Mr. Terkosky passed away on July 2, 1968. Monty married Dwain Virtue on Oct. 2, 1971, and lived in the Mtn. Grove area for many years. At the time of her passing, Monty was attending the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church in Cabool, where she enjoyed attending services.

She also enjoyed being outdoors, especially when tending to her flower gardens. She was a loving and giving wife, sister, and friend who will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, and her first husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Hitchcock; her mother-in-law, Thelma Virtue; and by one brother-in-law, Clifford Kelley.

She is survived by her husband, Dwain Virtue, of their home; her sister-in-law, Lois Kelley; her brother-in-law and his wife, David and Kim Virtue; a niece, Katie Virtue; a nephew, Curtis Virtue; her godchildren, Jolanda Blackwell and Jake Childs; special friends, Garry, Pam and Ellie Childs; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Monty Virtue were held Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m., in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with the Rev. Duane Crewse officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Home Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.
