Born on Nov. 23, 1934, in Coldsprings, Mo. Eugene (Gene) Earnest Bishop entered into rest Aug. 4, 2006. He was born on Nov. 23, 1934, in Coldsprings, Mo. Gene was united in marriage to Elaine Shinpaugh on June 2, 1955, in Ava, and to this union two children were born.
Gene spent most of his life in Wichita, Kan., where he managed Healthco Dental Supply for 33 years and retired in 1993. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1957 to 1959.
Gene enjoyed living at the Lake of the Ozarks, boating, fishing and bowling. He also enjoyed country music and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Gene was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wichita and Midian Shrine Temple.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Irene, and a bother, Robert.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elaine, of Camdenton; a son, Eugene and wife, Suzy, of Osage Beach; a daughter, Sandy and husband, Rex Sparrow, of Eastborough, Kan.; grandchildren, Satina Hatch, Cassie, Branda, Darian Bishop, Colby and Savanna Sparrow.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Don Graham officiating. Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
