Jessie L. Coy, 84

A lifelong resident of the Sweden community Jessie L. Coy, daughter of Carl and Lottie (Rippee) Hatfield, was born on Jan. 10, 1922, in Douglas County, and departed this life on July 31, 2006, in Ava, at the age of 84.

Jessie was a lifelong resident of the Sweden community. She was a housewife and homemaker.

On March 18, 1942, Jessie and Dewey Otto Coy were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union one daughter was born. Jessie became a Christian at the age of 17 years. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.

Jessie enjoyed cooking, canning and taking care of the household. She loved being with her family.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Otto, in 1982. They were married 40 years.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Darrell Lakey, Ava; two grandchildren, Janell Lakey, Brent and wife, Jennifer Lakey, and one great-grandson, Matthew Lakey, all of Ava; as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Oscar Cunningham officiating. Interment was in the Dobbs Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, from 7 to 8 pm in the funeral home. The family requests memorials to the Dobbs Cemetery, in care of the funeral home or Town & Country Bank, Ava.
