Born July 11, 1925, near Seymour Ivan Isaac Miller, son of Isaac Dolphin and Minnie Mae Morrison Miller, was born July 11, 1925, near Seymour. He departed this life Friday, July 21, 2006, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, at the age of 81.
On Feb. 11, 1947 he was united in marriage to Velma Louise Chase and to this union three daughters and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Velma, on November 27, 1999; and two daughters, Sandra and Yvone.
Ivan is survived by a daughter, Joy Fender, and her husband, Rocky, of Galena; a son, David Miller, and his wife, Connie, of Grovespring; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Smackout community, near Seymour, where he attended school. He served his country faithfully in the United States Coast Guard. After he and Velma were married, they made their home in the Hartville community except for two years when they lived in the state of Washington.
Ivan had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
He centered his life around his family and the farm and greatly enjoyed being outdoors, coon hunting, fishing, and brush hogging. He also loved going out to restaurants with his family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Holman-Howe Chapel, Hartville, with the Rev. Jack Dedmon officiating. Burial was in New Grove Cemetery.
