Born on Nov. 28, 1914, in Norwood Grace L. Brixey, daughter of the late Frank and Emma (Hopper) Strunk, was born on Nov. 28, 1914, in Norwood, and departed this life on July 18, 2006, in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, following a three-week illness. She was 91.
Grace grew up in Douglas County and attended the Glendale school. She was united in marriage to Eli Finch on Nov. 16, 1934. He passed away on Feb. 19, 1956. In 1958 she married Herbert “Herb” Alfred Brixey. They made their home in Douglas County and the Norwood community all their lives. Herb passed away on Feb. 10, 1987.
Grace enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and taking care of her chickens and guineas. She enjoyed farm life and watching all kinds of birds. She was saved at the Pryor Church following her marriage to Herb. At the time of her passing she was a member of Liberty Faith Church in Norwood and enjoyed attending as long as her health permitted.
Besides her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Hubert Strunk, Raymond Strunk, Lester Strunk, Byron Strunk, Billy Strunk, and Ova “Dink” Strunk; and by three sisters, Lettie Campbell, Eunice Sisco and Helen Strunk.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, her church family, and a host of other friends and neighbors in the community.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 21, at 10 a.m., in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Ron Kelly, Reg Kelly and Oscar Cunningham officiating. Burial was in Denlow Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mtn. Grove.
