Gertie Inez Stout, 95

Formerly of Gentryville Gertie Inez (Ferrell) Stout of Lawrence, Kan., and formerly of Gentryville, passed away July 18, 2006. Services will be held at the Blanche Community Church at the former site of Blanche, Missouri, on Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m. Burial will be immediately following services to celebrate and honor her life.

The family will receive visitors at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Gertie was born on Aug. 28, 1910, the daughter of James and Sara (Riley) Ferrell at Blanche, Missouri. Except for a year in Tarkio, and the last 32 months in Lawrence, Kan., she lived her entire life within a few miles of where she was born.

She, along with her husband, Hugh, to whom she would have been married for 77 years in November, operated, at different times, several rural grocery stores and a family farm. She also worked as a cook, of which there were none better, at the Rockbridge trout retreat until she retired.

She was a gifted quilter and seamstress. She enjoyed playing the piano and extending her devout Christian faith by being a servant of her family, friends, neighbors and the Gentryville Community Church.

She married her husband, Hugh L. Stout, on Nov. 29, 1929. He survives of the home.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Dallas, a son, Doyal and an infant granddaughter, Diana; three brothers, J.P. Ferrell, Floyd Ferrell and Urgil Ferrell; and two sisters, Maude (Ferrell) Massey and Lucille (Ferrell) Ridenour.

Other survivors include a daughter, Virginia and her husband Allan ‘Skeet” Smith, of Lawrence, Kan.; a sister, Daisy and her husband, Art, also of Lawrence, Kan.; a brother, Alf, of Livermore, Calif.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial gifts in favor of the Douglas County Kansas Visiting Nurses Association, the Blanche Cemetery or the Gentryville Community Church, c/o Clinkingbeard Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
