Born April 29, 1923, in Douglas County Lucy Martin, the daughter of Samuel Hugh Sartin and Elsie E. (Rousseau) Sartin, was born April 29, 1923, in Douglas County, and departed this life June 8, 2006, at the age of 83.
Lucy was a lifelong resident of the Bradleyville area. Lucy and Thomas Herman “Major” Martin were united in marriage in August l943. Lucy was a housewife and worked at Hagales for several years in Ozark and Forsyth. Lucy was a Christian and had attended Bradleyville Church of the Nazarene. She loved to quilt and cook for her family and also enjoyed working in her garden. Her joy was being with her family.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Herman “Major”, her parents, one son, Delmar, two brothers, Herman and Roy Sartin, three sisters, Ruth McClure, Agnes Davis and Kate Medlock.
Survivors include one son, Tom Martin, and one daughter, Peggy Hicks and husband, Junior, all of Bradleyville; one grandson, Tom Martin Jr.; four granddaughters and their husbands, Tammy and Jeff Spicer, Lisa and Bubba Taylor, Kerri and Dan Hampton, and Misty and Robbie Harmon; nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Lester, Brownstown, Mich., and Lula Mae Freeborn, Twin Falls, Idaho; one brother, Fred Sartin, Douglas, Kan., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, in the Bradleyville Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Vernon Fuller and Rev. Don Brynildson officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, which had charge of the services.
