Fern M. (Detherage) Brown, 79

Born in Ava, daughter of E.T. and Inez Morris Detherage Fern M. Brown, 79, of Leeton, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at her home.

She was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Ava, the daughter of E.T. Detherage and Inez Morris Detherage.

On April 14, 1945, she and James C. “J.C.” Brown were married in Kansas City, Kan., and had 61 years of marriage. He survives at the home.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and she and her husband were the owners and operators of the Brown Hardware Store in Leeton. She also was a member of the Leeton Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Calvin Brown and wife, Carol, of Warrensburg, and James Brown and wife, Jackie, of Gardner, Kan.; a daughter, Connie Williams and husband, David, of Leeton; three brothers, Glen Detherage, of Ava, John Detherage, of Sedalia, and Dale Detherage, of Leeton; two sisters, Iris Lane, Sedalia, and Gail Shumate, Warrensburg; three grandsons, Don Brown, Fort Leonard Wood, Dan Brown, Knob Noster, and Jason Williams, Warrensburg; three granddaughters, Amy Tobin, Franklin, Ohio, Christian Bysor, Chilhowee, and Melanie Noble, of San Marcos, Texas; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Fay Pryor.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 19, at the First Christian Church in Leeton with Mark Butrum officiating.

Burial was in the Mineral Creek Cemetery.
