Rita Pauline Jenkins, 87

Longtime resident of the Ava Rita Pauline Jenkins, daughter of Arthur and Lois Jenkins Richards, was born July 20, 1918 near Rome, Mo., and departed this life Saturday, May 13, 2006, in Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kan., at the age of 87 years, nine months, and 23 days.

She was united in marriage to Lester Vernon Jenkins Dec. 25, 1938, and to this union one daughter was born. Lester preceded her in death Dec. 14, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Marshall and Bill Richards.

She was a longtime resident of the Ava area moving to Seymour in l996 and then to Shawnee, Kan. to be near her daughter three years ago. She was a member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Seymour and a member of the Roy Quilting Club near Ava. She was retired from Fasco Industries in Ozark.

She is survived by her daughter and husband, Beverly Sue and Jim Wetherton, Lenexa, Kan.; a granddaughter and husband, De Recia and Eric Wade, Olathe, Kan.; three great-grandsons, Jimmie Burt, Jordan, and Josh “Chopper” Wade, Olathe, Kan.; a foster daughter, Mary Lou Hendricks, Fairview, Okla.; a foster son, Finnis “Skip” Berry, Ava; four foster grandsons, Jackie, Allen, Curtis, and Gary Hendricks, Fairview, Okla.; a sister, Helen Dobbins, Ava; two brothers and their wives, Jack and Irene Richards and Dick and Pauline Richards, all of Ava; a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and any friends.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, in Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Seymour with graveside services at 2:45 p.m. in Mt. Tabor Cemetery near Ava, with Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Douglas County Museum and Historical Society or the American Heart Association at the funeral home.
