Survived by son, Joe Gomes and his wife, Louise, of Ava Evengelina Gomes, 83, Ava, passed away Monday, May 8, 2006, at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center in Ava.
She was born Oct. 11, 1922, at Acores, Portugal, to Manuel and Maria (Rocha) Costa.
On Nov. 19, 1942, she married Benjamin C. Gomes in Portugal.
Evengelina was a devoted wife and mother, and she enjoyed cooking for her family as well as sewing. She was very dedicated to her church and her church family.
Evengelina was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, two daughters and one son.
She is survived by one son, Joe Gomes and his wife, Louise, of Ava; one daughter, Maria C. Alves and her husband, Dimas, of Seymour; 16 grandchildren including a grandson, Jerry Gomes, who is serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 12, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Ava, with Father Mike Powell, Celebrant, officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be between the hours of 6 and 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava.
