Born on Feb. 28, 1916, in Ava/Douglas County Lorene (Haynes) Dixon went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2006 at 4:30 p.m. She was born on Feb. 28, 1916, in Ava/Douglas County.
She accepted the Lord as her savior on Sept. 30, 1938, and was baptized on Oct. 2, 1938. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in the Basher community where she was an active member for many years.
This special lady took pride in her homemaking and had it down to a fine art. She also enjoyed gardening, quilting and reading the Bible most of all. The stories of our family history that she shared has enriched all of our lives immensely. Among her many life experiences none were greater than the birth of her two children, whom she loved dearly and spoke of often. Many thanks to her daughter-in-law Bonnie who was more like her daughter than daughter-in-law as they grew very close in almost 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Maude Haynes, husband Roy Dixon, step-daughter Joan and siblings, Vurbel Deatherage, Gladys Haynes and Henry “Murphy” Haynes.
She is survived by two children, Joe Turner and wife, Bonnie, and Sheila Hanks and husband, Larry; six grandchildren, Joy Rhodes and husband, John, Jerry Turner, Jeff Turner and wife, Patty, Randy Turner and wife, Aimee, Kira Bench and husband, Aaron, and Tiffany Hanks; 10 great-grandchildren, Holly Kleier and husband, Aaron, Timothy Rhodes, Jera Jo Crossland and husband, CJ, Cody Turner, Dylan Turner, Craig Turner, Dakota Turner, Hailey Turner, Brittney Turner and Kaylea Ann Bench; two great-great-grandchildren, Kylie Jo and Ashley Erin.
Graveside services will be held at Dyer Cemetery on Friday, April 28 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Steve Rear officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Friendship Baptist Church in the Basher community.
