Dicey F. Valentine, 94

Born Aug. 23, 1911, in Douglas County Dicey F. Valentine, the daughter of James Monroe Spurlock and Priscillia (Parnell) Spurlock, was born Aug. 23, 1911, in Douglas County, at Wildcat Creek, and departed this life April 24, 2006, at the age of 94 years 8 months and l day.

Dicey was a lifelong resident of the Ava area. On Aug. 2, 1930, Dicey and George Maxie Valentine were united in marriage in St. Joseph, and to this union a son was born.

Dicey attended Ava General Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Ava Chapter #47 and had received her 50-year pin. She enjoyed and loved being with her family.

Dicey was preceded in death by her parents, her husband “Max” in 1989, three brothers, four sisters and two infant grandsons.

She is survived by her son, Jim Valentine, Ava; three grandchildren, Jayma Potter, Ava, Monty Valentine, Squires, and Linda Church, Sikeston; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Berneice Coon, Kansas City; and a host of relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Don Graham officiating. Ava Eastern Star Chapter #47 will also conduct a memorial ceremony at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Ava Cemetery.

Visitation was held Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Ronald McDonald House in care of the funeral home.
