Born Aug. 18, 1918, at Swan, Mo. Fern Mills, 87, Nixa, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 24, 2006; she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 18, 1918, at Swan, Mo., to John Ervin and Myrtle (Morgan) Clark.
After she and Ray Mills were united in marriage, they moved to Sparta where they raised three daughters. Fern was employed by McBee Loose Leaf Binders for several years. She enjoyed volunteering at Thomas Elementary Library of Nixa and was also a longtime and active member of Southside Church of Christ, Ozark.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Richard, Oscar, Ike, Alf and Rex; and one grandson, Aaron St. John.
Fern is lovingly survived by three daughters and their spouses, Myrtle St. John and Derald, Marilyn Melton and David, all of Nixa, and Reta Edwards and J.D. of Springfield; two sisters, Pauline Weagley and Grace Shipman; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Clark, Jean Clark, and Ada Dennis; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jason and Jessica St. John, Tommy and Angie St. John, Ratava and Mark Moyer, Jennifer and Jeff James, Chris and Sarah Melton, Diann and Denny Eisman, and Gloria and Conrad Smith; 11 great-grandchildren, Dakota and Benjamin James, Emma Melton, Kylie and Aaron St. John, Quentin and Alex St. John, Bayley, Jarrett, Colton and John Moyer; other caring relatives and several friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 27, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark with ministers Chuck Eakins and Jerry Keene officiating. Burial followed in the Sparta Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 26 in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Fair Haven Children’s Home, of Strafford.
