Born April 21, 1920, in Douglas County Stella Sanders, the daughter of Charles E. Denney and Elizabeth (Hailey) Denney, was born April 21, 1920, in Douglas County, and departed this life March 14, 2006, at the age of 85 years.
Stella was lifelong resident of the Ava area. On Oct. 16, 1937 Stella and Herbert Sanders were united in marriage in Webster County. Stella and Herbert were blessed with two sons. Stella attended the Highway Church of the Nazarene, where she was baptized.
Stella was employed as clerk for the U.S. Forest Service and retired after 20 years of service. She owned and operated the Bears Den for 16 years. She also worked at the Recorder of Deeds Office for a few years. After retirement she was full time bookkeeper for the family business, Sanders Rock Products. She earned her private pilots license at the age of 52.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in-law, Barbara Sanders, a brother, Herbert Denney and a sister, Edith Denney.
She is survived by her husband, of 69 years, Herbert, of the home, Ava; two sons, Weldon Sanders and his wife, Suzanne, Ava, and Harvel Sanders, Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Susan, Mark, Jonathan, Robert and Mindy; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, Makenzie, Hayley and Lauren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Interment followed in the Denney Cemetery.
