Alton Thomas, 81

He attended school at Romance. Funeral services for Alton Thomas, 81, of Ava, were held Monday, March 20 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville with Halbert Smith officiating. Burial was in Loftis Cemetery

Mr. Thomas died March 17, 2006, at his home. He was born Sept. 4, 1924, the son of James Kelly and Nancy Genvra (Harley) Thomas in Willhoit. He married Charline Nance April 3, 1946, in Mountain Home, Ark.

He was a member of the Church of Christ. He attended school at Romance. He was a farmer and carpenter. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Charline; one daughter, Kay Johnson and her husband, Ralph, of West Plains; one granddaughter, Stephanie Seutter and her husband, Mark, of Austin, Texas; one great-grandson, Evan Suetter of Austin, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Mike Johnson and his family of Salem and Elizabeth Blau and her family of Alton; three sisters, Elsie James and her husband, Hubert, Gay Burke and her husband, Gaylord, and Bernice Pippin; two brothers, Alvis Thomas and his wife, Dolly, and Alvin Thomas and his wife, Reva; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Archie Thomas; and four sisters, Bonnie Thomas, Lena High, Elva Hill and Stella Frazier.
