Son of Noble Lakey and Bonnie May (Byerlee) Lakey William “Bill” Lakey, son of Noble Lakey and Bonnie May (Byerlee) Lakey, was born March 29, 1957, in Gunnison, Colo., and departed this life Feb. 21, 2006, in St. John’s Hospital Springfield, at the age of 48.
Bill was a resident of Springfield for the past 34 years moving there from Ava. He was employed as a dry wall finisher and carpenter. In 1984 Bill and Elysa Best were united in marriage in Springfield, and to this union five children were born. Bill enjoyed restoring and showing his trucks.
William was preceded in death by one grandson, Andrew and a brother, Gary.
He is survived by his wife, Elysa of the home; three daughters and their spouses, Rene and Trace Calabrese, Kansas City, Linda and Mark Cole and Mariah Lakey, all of Springfield; two sons, Tom Lakey and Adam and Jessica Lakey, all of Springfield; four grandchildren, Heaven, Mason, Caden Noble, and Stephanie; his parents, Noble and Bonnie Lakey, Ava; two brothers, Kevin and Stanley Lakey, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Brad Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Denlow Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
