Born April 5, 1921, in Douglas County Edith Lorene Ritter, the daughter of Monroe Kunze and Myrtle (Haynes) Kunze, was born April 5, 1921, in Douglas County, and departed this life Feb. 14, 2006 at the age of 84.
Edith was a resident of the Ava area for most of her life. On March 1, 1937 Edith and Edgar Alva Ritter were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union seven children were born. Edith was a housewife, a loving mother and a farmer’s helper. She was a member of the Black Oak Flat Church. She was a 10-year member of the Star Workers Extension and enjoyed making quilts for her family.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ercil, and her husband of 68 years, Edgar Alva.
She is survived by her seven children, Marie King, Ava, Monroe Ritter and wife, Lee, of Liberty, Mo., Linda Prock and husband, Kenneth, Wasola, Stella Upshaw, Neosho, Charles “Gene” Ritter, Ava, Hugh Ritter, Altas, Ark., James “J.C.” Ritter and wife Sheree, Bethel, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Kimberland and Laura Ritter, Halfway, Gregory and Marnie Ritter, Liberty, Jeanetta and Allen Bahnmiller, Seymour, Charles “Chuck” and Elaine King, Neosho, Terri Adams, Ava, Dennis Prock, Wasola, and Lorene Upshaw, Neosho; many great-grandchildren, and many step great-grandchildren; one sister, Gail (Davis) Williams, Springfield; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Larry Vinson and Robert Roberts officiating. Interment followed in the Dobbs Cemetery.
