Born June 16, 1932, in Ava Dorothy J. Lafferty, 73, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at Bluff Terrace in Clinton following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Dorothy J. (Williams) Lafferty was born June 16, 1932, in Ava, Mo., the daughter of Preston and Efie (Harper) Williams.
She was united in marriage to Calvin Reed Lafferty on July 3, 1948, in Ava. After 57 years of marriage he preceded her in death on November 17, 2005.
Mrs. Lafferty was a homemaker and a person who helped the elderly. She was a lady quick to give her special hugs and kind words. Dorothy loved to play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the hand of strength that held the family together. Her love will be remembered and missed by her loved ones.
Survivors include her five children, Margaret “Lou” (Jim) Pinter, Princeton, Iowa, Linda (Dennis) Maynard, Princeton, Iowa, Joyce (Stephen) Pinter, Bettendorf, Iowa, Ronald (Rhonda) Lafferty, Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and Michael Lafferty, of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lauretta (John) Ellis, of Ava, Mo.; one brother, Jerry (Charlene) Williams, of Ava, Mo.; and one half brother and five half sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, one sister and a half brother.
Funeral services were held at Nelson Funeral Home in DeWitt, Iowa, on Friday Feb. 3, 2006, at 1 p.m. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park.
Memorials in the name of Dorothy Lafferty may be designated to the family.
