Effa Mae Giles, 102

Born on Aug. 15, 1903, in Denlow, Mo. Effa Mae Giles, daughter of the late Benjamin and Eliza (Cox) Irwin, was born on Aug. 15, 1903, in Denlow, Mo., and departed this life on Feb. 5, 2006, in the Ozark Nursing and Care Center, Ozark, following a short illness. She was 102.

Effa grew up and attended school in Douglas County and was untied in marriage to William Giles. They made their home in the Dora community for several years. Mr. Giles passed away on Feb. 15, 1983.

Effa loved the Lord and her country, and was proud of her heritage. Her hobbies included making quilts for her relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Eliza Irwin; her husband, William “Bill” Giles; one brother, Jesse Irwin; and by one sister, Jayle Roy.

She is survived by numerous nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Effa Giles were held Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m., in the Dora Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Fred Hamby, Don Hamby and Oscar Cunningham officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Funeral Home of Mtn. Grove.
