Shirley attended Ava High School Shirley Faye King Fleetwood, the daughter of Wendell and Linda J. King was delivered by her father on Dec. 29, 1954 during one of the worst snowstorms in Meeker, Okla., and departed this life on Jan. 26, 2006, losing her courageous battle with cancer.
In 1978 she married Hershal Dale Fleetwood, her best friend.
Shirley attended Ava High School and moved to Springfield in 1978. She was a member of the Ava United Methodist Church.
Shirley embraced her life doing the things she loved most, she enjoyed being with her family, babysitting grandchildren, growing flowers, and helping her husband at work. She was never afraid to take a risk, like skydiving in her forties. She had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that would tickle your heart.
Shirley was preceded in death by her two grandfathers, Vern King and Ray Trent, and one grandmother, Winifred Trent.
She is survived by her husband, Hershal of the home; daughter, Christy and Pat Storie, of Willard, and son and daughter, Trent and Shiann of the home. She is also survived by one grandmother, Easter King; her parents, Wendell and Linda J. King; three brothers, Lendell and Linda Sue, Steve and Alesia, Glen and Cindy; one sister, Bonnie and husband Neal Barnes; two grandsons, Marty Storie and Trent Fleetwood Jr.; one granddaughter Madilyn Storie, and one “other daughter” Angie. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces and relatives and friends.
She had a close and unique bond with each and everyone. She was loved by many and missed by all.
A Memorial service will be held at the Ava United Methodist Church Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Greg Dowler and Rev. Lin Stern officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
