Born in Squires, Mo., June 29, 1933 Don Valdon Frye, 72, a resident of Fredonia, Kans., died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at his daughter’s home in Carthage, Mo.
He was born in Squires, Mo., June 29, 1933, to Clarence P. and Rena Bell (Hardcastle) Fry, and graduated from Fredonia High School. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served from 1951 to 1953. He retired in 1998 after 40 years of work as a roofer.
On Aug. 24, 1965, he married Niki Killoren in St. Robert, Mo., and she survives at their home.
Survivors in addition to his wife Niki include five daughters, Kay Coleman of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Donelle Frye of Fredonia, Gerry Short of Independence, Menda Harper of Coolidge, Ariz., and Joyce Frye of Carthage, Mo.; one son, Kirk Strikland of Littleton, Colo.; one brother, Dane Frye of Davenport, Iowa; four sisters, Violet Adams of Kansas City, Mo., Geraldine Matney of Fredonia, Mozelle Allen of Saline and Janice Cox of Osage City; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, Reginald Frye, Gale Frye, Jack Fry and Norman Fry, preceded him in death.
Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 23, at the Fredonia City Cemetery under the direction of the Timmons Funeral Home, Fredonia, Kans. Rev. Gene Benefiel of the Buxton Christian Church officiated.
