Born Oct. 26, 1927 in Ava Elmer Ray Phillips the son of Luther Phillips and Mae (Cornett) Phillips was born Oct. 26, 1927 in Ava, and departed this life Jan. 19, 2006 at the age of 78.
Elmer was a resident of the Ava area for the past 47 years. Elmer served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He was employed as a truck driver for Welton Gravel for over 30 years. Elmer enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing.
On June 21, 1956 Elmer and Barbara Cox were united in marriage in Ava. They were blessed with three children.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara.
He is survived by two sons, Mike Phillips, San Diego, Calif., and Greg Phillips, Seymour; a daughter, Jane Hos, Ava; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Ava Cemetery. Full military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 112 and VFW 5993. A visitation was held before service time.
