Born Jan. 18, 1921 Fred A. Burk was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Ada, Okla., and peacefully passed from this life on Dec. 10, 2005, in Springfield. He was a faithful member of the First General Baptist Church of Springfield.
He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II. Fred was a carpenter with Burk Bridge Company prior to his retirement.
Fred enjoyed his family, friends, and church. He spent hours in his workshop using his talents to turn pieces of wood into works of art. He liked thinking of ways to make things better with practical and creative solutions.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Burk; his daughters, Betsy Earls and husband, Doug, and Tina Sibley and husband, Nick. He enjoyed his granddaughter, Anna, and grandson, Captain. He is also survived by a sister, Jean Tabor, and a brother, Leo Burk, whom he especially enjoyed being with.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and five brothers.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, in the Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial was at 1 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
