George Charles Stone, the son of David Pate Stone and Margaret (Strong) Stone, was born April 16, 1913, in Rippee, Mo., and departed this life Oct. 3, 2005, at the age of 92.
George was a life long resident of the area. On Jan. 5, 1944 George and Celesta Hodges were united in marriage in St. Joseph, and to this union five children were born.
George was a farmer in the Bertha area all of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, “whittlin”, singing, playing music, telling tall tales, and visiting with all his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Celesta, of the home, Ava; four sons, Butch and wife, Dawn Stone, Mutt Stone, Mike and Debbie Stone, and Danny Stone, all of Ava; one daughter, Connie Stone, Ava; one grandson, Darren Stone, Ava; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alvin Stone and Edward Stone, four sisters, Ella Ferguson, Elizabeth Curtis, Mary Medlock, Dorothy Hodges and Bertha Stone.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Yates Cemetery Pavilion, with E. J. Hampton officiating. Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.
