Bessie Alice Cox, 89

The daughter of Lane Fredrick Morse and Ina Elnora (Grammar) Morse, was born March 13, 1916 Bessie Alice Cox, the daughter of Lane Fredrick Morse and Ina Elnora (Grammar) Morse, was born March 13, 1916, in Hastings, Iowa, and departed this life Sept. 22, 2005, at the age of 89.

Bessie and Clyde W. Cox were united in marriage Jan. 4, 1941, in Rockport, Mo. Bessie was a resident of Ava for the past 50 years, moving here from Iowa. Bessie was a housewife, farmer and worked in institutions as a caregiver. She was a Christian and attended Brushyknob and Bethany Baptist churches. Bessie loved horses, animals, being outside and working in her flower garden.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; her parents; one brother, Raymond Morse; one sister, Leatta Fleming; one infant child, Mary Ann; a stepson, Ervin, and a step-grandson.

Bessie is survived by a stepdaughter, Phyllis Blockmon, of California; two sisters, Waneta Blackman, Ava, and Ina Winters, Oakland, Iowa; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Paul Welch and Oscar Cunningham officiating. Interment was in the Burdett Cemetery.
