Charles “Shorty” Barr, 75, died Tuesday, August 31, 2005 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Ft. Dodge, Kansas.
He was born September 26, 1929 at Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Charles Russell and Newella Powell Barr. A Ft. Dodge resident since 1995, moving from Arkansas City, he was a mechanic for General Electric, retiring in 1995.
He served in the United States Air Force from October 1946 to October 1967, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On December 21, 1984, he married Janie Marie Bennett at Arkansas City.
Survivors include: his wife Janie M. Barr of Squires, Missouri; 2 sons, Michael Barr, Arizona and Scott Barr, Pensacola, Florida; 1 daughter, Connie Cook, Arizona; 3 step-sons, Johnny Round, Wichita and George Round and Brian Round both of Arizona; a step-daughter, Dora Jean Burris, Kansas; a sister, Mary Lou Williams, Arkansas City; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-daughter, Stephanie Stewart.
Private family burial will be in the Murray Cemetery, Squires, Missouri. There will be no public visitation.
