Herbert Bragg Putnam, 76

Son of Charles Aaron Putnam and Sarah Columbus Bragg Putnam, was born March 21, 1929, in Douglas County, and departed this life Aug. 10, 2005, at the age of 76. Herbert B. Putnam, the son of Charles Aaron Putnam and Sarah Columbus Bragg Putnam, was born March 21, 1929, in Douglas County, and departed this life Aug. 10, 2005, at the age of 76.

Herbert was a lifelong resident of the Gentry community near Ava. He was an electrician and beef farmer. Herbert was converted in 1971 and was a member of the Gentry Community Church. He served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force.

Herbert loved chess, music and playing his guitar, traveling to see family, studying Civil War history, and was a good neighbor to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Juanita Rogers and Faye Kidd, and brothers-in-law Melvin Rogers, Clinton Kidd, Kenneth Borders and Charles Arbuthnot.

His survivors include one brother, Don Putnam and wife, Frieda, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two sisters, Marie Arbuthnot, Chatham, Ill., Leanna Borders, Rogersville; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. David Dodson and Maxine Lund officiating. Interment followed in the Bragg Cemetery.
