Lillian E. Somers, daughter of Noah Elias Puckett and Belva Zella Burling Puckett, was born on April 15, 1943, in Cobleskill, N.Y., and was called home on July 18, 2005 in Ava at the age of 62 years.
Lillian was a resident of the Ava community since 1997, moving from Cobleskill, N.Y. She was a pharmaceutical technician at Ava Wal-Mart Super Center for seven years and also worked in pharmacies in New York.
Lillian was also a retired seamstress. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Dorloo, N.Y. Lillian adored being with people and enjoyed caretaking and giving of herself to her family and friends.
On Jan. 2, 1960, Lillian and Russel Somers were united in marriage in Castleton, N.Y., and to this union four children were born.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Floyd Puckett.
She is survived by partner, Russel Somers of the home in Ava; four children; Mark Somers, Warnerville, N.Y., Melissa West, Ava, Rodney Somers, Virginia Beach, Va., and Jessica Somers, Ava; six grandsons, Jacob Somers, Jared Somers, Gregory Somers, Joshua Hitchcock, Lukas Somers and Zackary Brodeur; three sisters; Belva France, Ohio, Betty Moldenhauer, Burnt Hills, N.Y., and Viola “Vi” Baker, Rensselaer, N.Y.; one brother, Schuyler Puckett, Orange, Calif.; a special friend, Jean Hellijas and family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday, July 21) at the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Rev. Freeda Holt officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, Douglas County Relay For Life.
