Shirley Goodnight, 85

Shirley Goodnight, age 85, of Sapulpa, Okla., passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005, in her daughter’s home in Seligman, Mo.

She was born July 24, 1919, in Lutie, Mo., the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Absher) Simpson. On July 19, 1937, in Pond Fork, Mo., she was united in marriage to Bernie Goodnight, who preceded her in death March 3, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one grandson and one granddaughter.

She is survived by two sons, Billie Joe Goodnight, and his wife, Cathy, of Sapulpa, Okla., and Harold Junior Goodnight, and his friend, Cathy, of Ava; three daughters, Claudie Hartsell, and her husband, Olen Dewitt, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Barbara Ingram, and her husband, Mark, of Wagoner, Okla., and Sharon Sue Benson, of Seligman, Mo.; one brother, Cleo Simpson, and his wife, Vickie, of Ridgefield, Wash.; six sisters, Goldie Hart, of Sedalia, Mo., Irene Humbyrd, of Woodland, Wash., Lorene Hayes, of Woodland, Wash., Clella Record, and her husband, Clarence, of Longview, Wash., Litha Hayden, and her husband, Ed, of Golden Dale, Wash., and Bertha Kilkelly, of Woodland, Wash., 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren.

Shirley received her education in Thornfield, Mo. She resided in Springdale, Ark. several years, where she was employed with the Wilson Factory. She moved to Sapulpa, Okla. three years ago to make her home.

Shirley loved bluegrass and gospel music. Some of her favorite past times were sewing, camping and traveling. Her greatest joy in life was being involved with her family.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, in Thornfield Cemetery, Thornfield, Mo., under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Mo.
