Helen M. Smith, 93, Springfield, was born in Ava on November 22, 1911, the daughter of Horace and Eva (White) Curnutt, and passed away on June 19, 2005, in Springfield.
Helen was united in marriage with Eben Smith and he preceded her in death.
Helen was a homemaker. In her free time she was a piano teacher and played in the Liberty Senior Citizens Band. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, oil painting, ce-ramics, and hat making. She was a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mammie Minnic of Columbia; a nephew, James E. Curry and his wife, Louanna, of Ava; a niece, Jenna Lee Ferrel of Colorado; five great-nieces; three great-nephews; several cousins; and many special friends at the Parkmoor.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 21, at 2 p.m. in the Thieme–Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Rivermonte Chapel, with interment following in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens.
